Self Serve Subscriptions & Billing

Clients were unable to access records of their subscriptions or invoices easily within the online portal. To bring the product in line with recent legislation changes, clients should have an easy way to be able to make changes to their subscriptions.

The Problem

To create a new area within the portal where admins are able to view & modify subscriptions, including any add-ons, view a recorded list of invoices and be able to pay through this.

The Objective

Designed a new user-friendly and easily accessible area within accounts to show clients’ subscriptions and invoices on a single page, utilising tables to make information digestible to the average user.

The Solution

I performed UX research in the form of stakeholder interviews to help inform user flows. Iterating on designs to optimise usability & introduced prototypes for stakeholder usability testing, from which the feedback gave me invaluable insights for some last tweaks.

The Process

Discovery and Ideation

As I was already very familiar with the product, time restraints and due to the request being fairly straight forward, I felt comfortable to jump straight in to designing without any extensive research.

  • To bring the product in line with recent legislation changes, clients should have an easy way to be able to make changes to their subscriptions.

  • 2 Main information types to show; Subscriptions and Invoices. So I decided to break these down in to 2 table sections.

    1. Subscriptions section requirements:
      - Place to show all subscriptions in one place
      - A way to edit/cancel these subscriptions

    2. Invoices section requirements:
      - Place to show all invoices in one place
      - Ability to click a button to take you to Chargebee where you are able to update payment detail and pay invoices.
      - Ability to download - invoices

  • Admins & finance employees - using the portal to track subscriptions & payments.

User Flow & Prototype

Created high fidelity, dev-ready subscriptions area designs & introduced prototyping within the product team, which I presented to stakeholders. This improved the company’s compliance thus increasing trust and boosting the relationship between the company and clients.

The Impact

I was very excited about this project because I am passionate about user trust and this directly improved our product this way. I received wonderful feedback from both the development team and also product managers about the prototype as they find these an extremely useful reference while completing back/front end work and also to demo upcoming features to existing clients.
